Platform Engineer, Munich

Based in Munich. Permanent employment basis, Hybrid - 2 days home office
You will work on behalf of our client, a leading German-headquartered retail innovator who is modernising their proprietary, cloud-native customer relationship management platform. This isn't just an "off-the-shelf" CRM; it is the heartbeat of the company’s customer interactions, powering high-level insights and driving turnover growth across a major European marketplace. As the new Senior Platform Engineer, you will possess a rare blend of deep Java expertise and a "DevOps mindset" to standardise, clean, and evolve a complex 90-microservice landscape. You will play a pivotal role as a technical mentor and strategic problem-solver, serving as the driving force behind bringing a complex system up to enterprise-grade standards. Following the departure of external consultants, this role offers a massive opportunity to take the reins, transition away from legacy code, and shape the platform’s future direction.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Develop innovative software solutions for measurement and testing applications
- Create software and control concepts for a wide range of customer applications
- Prepare technical documentation
- Manage sub-projects and communicate with customers
Other requirements:
- Mastery of Java and Spring Boot.
- Proven experience working with Kafka.
- Strong proficiency with Terraform and Ansible to manage a cloud-native ecosystem.
- Hands-on experience managing or migrating complex microservice architectures (ideally 50+ services).
- Exceptional communication and ownership skills, with a proven track record of identifying problems and proposing solutions.
- Experience in Retail, E-commerce, or CRM systems is highly advantageous.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; German language skills are a strong plus
